Getting Started
What is the AI Tool Hackathon?
A live, timed build competition. You get a live-streamed build session, a set of requirements revealed at the start, and two hours to build a working solution using any AI tool you choose. Winner takes $100 AUD cash and 6 months of TSIP membership.
Who can enter?
You need to be 18 or older, or 13–17 with a parent or guardian's permission, and hold an active AI Hackathon membership. Entry may be limited to specific regions depending on prize eligibility rules, check the sign-up page for current restrictions.
How much does it cost to enter?
$6/month for AI Hackathon membership, cancel anytime. This is a hackathon-specific membership, not general TSIP membership. There's no separate entry fee on top of that.
Do I need experience with AI tools to join?
No. Judging is about how well you use whatever tool you pick.
On The Day
What do I need to build?
Requirements are announced live at the start of the stream. You won't know the brief in advance.
Which AI tools am I allowed to use?
Any AI tool you want. There's no approved list, the competition is about how well you use it, not which one you pick.
How long do I actually have?
Two hours from the moment requirements are announced.
What's the "modifier" thrown in halfway through?
An additional requirement or constraint added partway through the build, without advance warning. Build in some flexibility.
What if my internet drops or I have a technical issue mid-build?
Reconnect and resume as quickly as possible. TSIP isn't responsible for participant-side technical failures (internet outages, hardware issues, power loss) and can't extend individual deadlines for them, but reach out during the stream if it happens so it can be noted.
Prizes & Judging
How is the winner picked?
Judged live by the host and the YouTube livestream audience, scored on design, usability, uniqueness, and how fast you built it. Final decisions are at the host's discretion.
When and how do I get paid if I win?
Prize payment details are confirmed with the winner directly after the event. Method and timing will be communicated at that point.
Is the $100 AUD before or after fees?
$100 AUD is the prize amount paid to the winner. Any transfer fees on TSIP's side are covered by TSIP, taxes on prize winnings, if applicable in your jurisdiction, are the winner's responsibility.
What happens to the 6 months of membership if I already have TSIP membership?
It's added to your existing membership term.
Can I win more than once across different hackathons?
Yes, there's no limit on how many events you can win, unless stated otherwise for a specific event.
Ownership & After The Event
Who owns what I build?
You keep ownership of what you build. By entering, you grant TSIP a license to use your submission and your livestream footage for promotional purposes (site, social media, YouTube). The Terms below have the specific language.
Will my build/stream be public or recorded?
Yes. The event is livestreamed publicly on YouTube and the recording stays up afterward. A link is kept on the scoreboard page.
Can I keep working on my project after?
Yes, it's yours to continue.
Does winning guarantee investor interest?
No. TSIP may promote winning builds and attempt to connect winners with relevant contacts, but this isn't a guaranteed outcome of winning and isn't part of the prize itself.
Membership & Billing
What does the $6/month get me?
Entry into every AI Tool Hackathon event going forward. That's what it covers, it's a hackathon-specific membership, not general TSIP membership.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Cancelling ends access to future hackathon entries as of your next billing cycle, it doesn't affect results from events you already entered.
Is there a refund if I sign up and can't attend?
Membership fees aren't refunded for missed events. You keep access to enter future hackathons for as long as your membership is active.

- Acceptance. By entering the AI Tool Hackathon ("the Event"), you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't enter.
- Organizer. The Event is organized by The Safer Internet Project (TSIP). References to "we," "us," or "TSIP" mean the organizer.
- Eligibility. Entrants must be 18 years or older, or aged 13–17 with the express permission of a parent or legal guardian, and hold an active AI Hackathon membership at the time of entry. TSIP reserves the right to verify eligibility and to disqualify any entrant who does not meet these requirements.
- Entry. Entry is granted through active AI Hackathon membership ($6/month, cancellable at any time). This membership tier covers Hackathon Event access only and does not include broader TSIP membership benefits. TSIP reserves the right to limit the number of entrants per Event.
- Format. Each Event is a live, time-limited build competition. Requirements are disclosed at the start of the livestream. Entrants have a maximum of two (2) hours from that point to complete their submission. TSIP may introduce additional requirements ("modifiers") at its sole discretion during the build window.
- Permitted Tools. Entrants may use any AI tool of their choosing. There is no restricted or required tool list unless otherwise stated for a specific Event.
- Judging. Winners are determined by a combination of live audience scoring and host judgment, assessed against published criteria (design, usability, uniqueness, time to build). All judging decisions are final and at TSIP's sole discretion. TSIP is not obligated to provide individual feedback or justification for scoring decisions.
- Prize. The prize for the Event held August 1, 2026 is $100 AUD cash and six (6) months of TSIP membership, awarded to the winning entrant as determined under Clause 7. Prize amounts for future Events will be announced ahead of each Event and may differ from this amount. TSIP reserves the right to substitute a prize of equivalent value where the stated prize cannot reasonably be provided. Prizes are non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash alternatives except at TSIP's discretion. Winners are solely responsible for any tax obligations arising from prize winnings in their jurisdiction.
- Intellectual Property. Entrants retain ownership of the work they create during the Event. By entering, each entrant grants TSIP a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, reproduce, display, and distribute their submission and associated livestream footage for promotional and marketing purposes, including but not limited to TSIP's website, social media accounts, and YouTube channel.
- Recording & Consent. Entrants consent to being recorded, live-streamed publicly, and featured in event footage that may remain publicly accessible after the Event concludes.
- Disqualification. TSIP reserves the right to disqualify any entrant, at any stage, for conduct including but not limited to: submitting non-live or pre-built work, plagiarism, use of another person's work without attribution, offensive or harmful content, harassment of other participants, or any attempt to manipulate scoring.
- Promotion of Winning Entries. TSIP may, at its sole discretion, promote winning submissions across its own channels and attempt to connect winning entrants with third parties (including potential investors or partners). This is not a guaranteed component of the prize and TSIP makes no representation that any such connection will result in funding, partnership, or any other outcome.
- Changes & Cancellation. TSIP reserves the right to reschedule, modify the format of, or cancel any Event with reasonable notice where circumstances require it.
- Limitation of Liability. TSIP is not liable for any loss, damage, or inconvenience arising from an entrant's own technical issues, including but not limited to internet outages, hardware failure, or power loss during an Event. To the maximum extent permitted by law, TSIP's liability in connection with the Event is limited to the value of the stated prize.
- Governing Law. These Terms are governed by the laws of Australia.
- Changes to These Terms. TSIP may update these Terms from time to time. Continued participation in future Events constitutes acceptance of the then-current Terms.
